Elvis And Tar Shut Out At 2023 Oscars

Elvis and Tár Shut Out at 2023 Oscars

Despite Nods, Films Fail to Secure Wins

Baz Luhrmann's Elvis and Todd Field's Tár, both nominated for multiple Oscars, failed to secure any wins at the 95th Academy Awards.

Despite strong performances by Austin Butler as Elvis Presley in Luhrmann's film and Cate Blanchett as Lydia Tár in Field's film, neither movie managed to triumph in any of the categories in which they were nominated.

Butler, who won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his performance in Elvis, was nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars. The film was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Film Editing, and Best Costume Design.

Tár was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director (Field), Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress (Blanchett), and Best Original Score. Blanchett was widely favored to win Best Actress, but the award ultimately went to Michelle Yeoh for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Despite the lack of Oscar wins, Elvis and Tár have received critical acclaim and box office success. Elvis has grossed over $285 million worldwide, while Tár has earned over $10 million.
